It's Christmas Eve (when I'm writing this), time for the last minute preparations.
Stress, because the Kindle I ordered for my Mum has not arrived yet - so half my mind is trying to work out the chances of it arriving (it should have come by last wednesday) and the other half is trying to decide on a creative backup plan.
In the midst of these logistics it is easy to forget why we're celebrating Christmas, so that is why I think it's so helpful to remember the nativity. I shot my nativity photo at a friend's house, as I was photographing her newborn baby. A nice parallel there, a real newborn like Jesus.
I don't yet have a nativity scene of my own, but am remembering the nativity by watching the BBC adaptation, The Nativity (2010). I hear some Christians were insulted by it and how Mary was portrayed - but for me - that adds to the miracle that occured and the strength of her faith. Mary was not walking around surrounded by doves, butterflies and halos!
How have you escaped the materialism of Christmas - I'd love to hear what is working for you?

So thats what my present is/will be when it arrives! Now I can't wait!
I'd love to have a carved wooden nativity set, as in the book about a man called Mr Twomey. Ask Heather to do a blog about that book.
